Solutions
On this small island, we need to find a way to live sustainably, where people, the environment and the economy can thrive in this and future generations. We need a shared vision for our collective future and to develop strategies based on shared values.
These are my proposed solutions for some of these issues which affect us should I be elected to serve George Town North.
Cost of Living:
Remove import duty on more items, especially essential items for the elderly, women and children.
Review health insurance premiums pricing and standard fees and expand coverage for the most vulnerable.
Incent, facilitate and increase the supply of affordable, for sale and for rental housing.
Replace and expand the network of public transport to achieve higher quality and reliability.
Review and adjust the minimum wage.
Introduce community-based solar panel systems to lower electricity bills.
Education
Transition to a more inclusive model of education with expanded support services, helping children achieve their potential.
Raise the standards of teaching, learning and achievement.
Provide Caymanians with a full scholarship to obtain 4-year degrees at UCCI, ICCI or the Truman Bodden Law School.
Provide 2 years of free post-secondary education: A Levels, TVET Certification or an Associate Degree.
Start mandatory education a year earlier, at 3 years 9 months.
Overdevelopment and the Race to 100K
Within first 100 days, initiate Vision 2030: A National Plan for Our Sustainable Future.
Commit to the principles of Smart Growth to guide our physical development.
Set sustainability targets, balancing the needs of our people, the economy, and the environment.
Commission a 2021 Census to get accurate data on population demographics and forecast growth.
Expand data collection across the public, private and nonprofit sectors to inform growth management decisions, policies, and resource allocation.
Designate certain jobs for Caymanians only and with notice, effectively transition employers.
The Environment:
Implement stronger laws and regulations to protect our ecosystems & coastlines.
Increase resources for enforcement of environmental laws and regulations.
Increase the size and number of green spaces and shade in communities.
Commit to and accelerate the implementation of the National Energy Policy.
Introduce a FREE Caymanians-only fishing licence to reduce overfishing and protect species.
Financial Services
Properly resource the Financial Services Secretariat.
Utilise a single Ministry for Financial Services combined with Trade, Investment, Aviation and Maritime Affairs.
Improve industry wide consultation and engagement across all sectors.
Dedicate adequate resources to marketing, PR and promotions to build and protect brand Cayman.
Establish a Financial Services Training Programme to prepare Caymanians for jobs.
Support all local regulatory bodies to meet the necessary international standards.
Encourage international businesses to establish physical offices and headquarters in the Cayman Islands.
